Cybersecurity 101 with Mike Novack

For many people, cybersecurity feels unclear and hard to grasp. The language is technical, the advice is often abstract, and it can be difficult to understand what genuinely matters versus what can safely be ignored. As a result, decisions are made without confidence, or not made at all.

Cybersecurity 101, run by Mike Novack, was created to address that gap. The workshop focuses on helping people build a practical understanding of how cyber threats actually unfold, how organisations respond, and how to think more clearly about risk, without needing a technical background.

The session uses Byte Club to explore realistic attack and defence scenarios in a hands-on, conversational way. Participants step through decisions attackers and defenders face, and see how established ideas like the Cyber Kill Chain and NIST principles apply in real situations, not just on paper.

Rather than overwhelming attendees with tools or terminology, the workshop prioritises mental models, discussion and shared reasoning. The goal is confidence: leaving with a clearer way to assess cyber situations, ask better questions, and make more informed choices.

The workshop can be delivered online or in person, and works well for teams or mixed-experience groups who want a grounded, practical introduction to cybersecurity.
